This month's edition has information about the Highly Qualified Teacher provision in the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) act. There seems to be some discrepancy in the way the district's data is examined; last year, CATALYST found 12 % of teachers were not certified in the subject they taught, the district said they examined the same data, and found only 5 % of teachers were teaching out of field.
In special ed, middle school, and high school math and science, shortages supposedly exist. As of last week, no science positions were staffed by teachers that were not highly qualified, according to Human Resources.
